Dear Hawai‘i TESOL Members,
To those of you who attended the Hawaii TESOL Language Experience at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa on May 21, mahalo for your support and participation. It was a wonderful, energizing evening! Special thanks to Ms. Jan Fried from Kapi‘olani Community College for her “quiet,” but enthusiastic lesson on American Sign Language.
Hawai‘i TESOL finished the year with the Language Experience event. Have a wonderful summer, and see you at the Opening Social in September!! (More information will be updated at the end of summer—so, please stay tuned!!)

Hawaii TESOL is currently seeking your input as we begin planning our 2008-2009 academic season. Last year after a brief informal survey, we found that job hunting and employment were the top concerns shared by our members. As a result, we were able to feature a job fair and employment panel at the annual conference. We hope by soliciting broader feedback through this online survey, we can once again serve the needs and interests of ESL professionals in Hawaii.

Hawai'i TESOL held its annual Business Meeting at Hawai‘i Pacific University on Friday, April 18. At the meeting, attendees elected new and continuing members to the Executive Board to serve during the 2008-2009 term. Results of the election are posted below.
Congratulations to new officers Kyung Hee Choi, Reggie Gentry (Program Committee Members), and Lisa Kawai (Layout Editor of The Word—Hawaii TESOL Newsletter). And congratulations to all continuing officers! We thank you for your outstanding service to the organization and to our professional community.
We are still seeking volunteers to serve as vice president and TESOL Ukraine Sister Affiliate Liaison. If you are interested in one of those positions or have questions about the job descriptions, contact Mark Wolfersberger at maw44@byuh.edu or Masaki Seo at mseo@hawaii.edu
At the business meeting, our President, Masaki Seo, reported our success in the previous three events (Opening Social, ESL Workshops, and Annual Conference). THE DATE for our next event, the Language Experience on Wednesday May 21,
from 5:30-8:00 pm on the UH-Manoa
campus. This year's target language is American Sign Language. More
